Jo Palmer, Minister for Children and Youth
The Tasmanian Government is delivering on its commitment to increase the base rate of support payments for all foster and formal kinship carers for one year.
Minister for Children and Youth, Jo Palmer, said this reflects the Government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that children in care, and the people who support them, receive the resources and recognition they deserve.
“Our Government is delivering additional funding for carers who provide safety and care for about 1,000 children statewide,” Minister Palmer said.
“As we celebrate Foster and Kinship Carers Week, we want to honour our incredible carers, who do extraordinary things.
“They come from all walks of life and from different backgrounds but are united in their deep commitment to keep vulnerable children safe.
“They provide the opportunity for our children and young people in Tasmania to thrive and succeed, by welcoming them into their families and homes.
“The Tasmanian Government deeply values the vital role of foster and kinship carers in providing safety, stability and support to children and young people.
“We are committed to strengthening Child Safety and Out of Home Care services by building a sustainable, responsive system for the future that delivers the best support for both children and carers.
“This Liberal Government is delivering for Tasmania, and we are working together to move our State forward.”
Foster and Kinship Carers Week runs from 13 - 21 September 2025.
