Jo Palmer, Minister for Education

The Tasmanian Government has reached an agreement with Clarence City Council to deliver the second stage of works at Cambridge Primary School.

The $9.9 million second stage of works will deliver a new gymnasium for the school, together with car park and traffic improvements.

Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, this project is an exciting milestone for Cambridge Primary, which will benefit students, school staff and the wider community.

“This project will give students access to a modern, purpose-built gym, as well as allow the broader community to access the facility outside of school hours,” Minister Palmer said.

“The works to Cambridge Primary School have been shaped through extensive consultation with students, staff, and the broader community.

“I want to acknowledge and thank the Clarence City Council for its support to deliver this outcome for the school and broader community.

“Our Government is delivering the school infrastructure our students and school staff need and deserve, and we are working together to move our State forward.”

Cambridge Primary School sits on a highly constrained site, and through strong collaboration between the Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) and the Council, an agreement was reached for DECYP to lease an additional parcel of Council land to accommodate the new gymnasium.

Local architects Bence Mulcahy, who designed the $8.1 million first stage of works recently completed and handed over to the school, have been re-engaged for the Stage 2 works and a Project Working Group has now been established.

The Stage 2 works will be undertaken in conjunction with other improvements within the precinct, including realignment of the oval, as part of Council’s Cambridge Memorial Oval Master Plan.

Stage 2 works are planned to commence in 2026 and be completed in the second half of 2027
