Bowls participants across Tasmania have been supported to get active as part of the Tasmanian Government’s Ticket to Wellbeing Program.
Deputy Premier Guy Barnett launched the 2025/26 Pennant Season at Deloraine Bowls Club today.
“Bowls clubs, just like this one, are hubs for our regional communities,” the Deputy Premier said.
“This club has been a focal point for this community since it was established in 1926 and now has around 60 strong members.
“We know how important sports are for social health and wellbeing, especially as people get older.
“That’s why our Government has backed in sporting clubs across the State.
“Our Government is delivering for Tasmania by investing in bowls clubs across the State, as well as making it more accessible for older Tasmanians to participate in sport.
“We are supporting bowls clubs to deliver upgrades, including new synthetic greens, equipment and facilities, and general maintenance.”
Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, said the inaugural round of Ticket to Wellbeing program was a resounding success, encouraging older Tasmanians to play sport, with one in 10 of the recipients taking up a new activity.
“Bowls was the second most popular sport under the inaugural program, with golf taking the top spot,” Minister Duigan said.
“Almost 20 per cent of vouchers were used across bowls clubs in Tasmania.
“The oldest recipient was 100 years old, while 57 per cent of recipients were female.
“A wide range of recipients were located in our regions, showing this program has helped Tasmanians in all corners of the State.
“Areas such as Launceston, Devonport and Shearwater were among those with the highest recipients.”
The Ticket to Wellbeing Program is a perfect example of our Government getting on with it and delivering the things that matter to Tasmanians.
