Felix Ellis, Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management

The Tasmanian Government is cracking down on reckless drivers with the reintroduction of the Police Offences Amendment Bill 2025.

Having passed the House of Assembly in April, the Bill subsequently lapsed due to Labor’s unnecessary winter election.

Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis said we are throwing the book at those who selfishly put other road users and themselves in danger.

“We’ve seen too many TikTok turkeys doing the wrong thing on our roads and encouraging others on social media – it’s dangerous, it’s reckless, and it’s not good enough,” Minister Ellis said.

“As part of our 100-day plan, we have reintroduced laws to crackdown on unsafe driving behaviour, including increasing powers to crush and confiscate an offender’s vehicle.”

The Bill also includes increased penalties for driving offences and introduces the new offence of road rage.

“This Liberal Government is delivering for Tasmania by making our roads safer and protecting the community from those that feel they’re above the law,” Minister Ellis said.
