Felix Ellis, Minister for Skills and Jobs

Tasmanian learners can now undertake virtual and augmented reality training, gaining job-ready skills before they even set foot on a worksite.

In a first of its kind for Tasmania, TasTAFE’s Immersive Skills Lab will combine virtual, augmented and mixed reality technologies and experiences to deliver training in a risk-free environment.

Minister for Skills and Jobs, Felix Ellis, said the facility will transform how Tasmanians prepare for work.

“This is next-level training—interactive, immersive and built for the real world,” Minister Ellis said.

“By harnessing cutting-edge technology, we’re fast-tracking job readiness and making sure our training system keeps pace with industry.”

The Tasmanian Government invested $250,000 to help set-up the lab, in partnership with Bell Bay Advanced Manufacturing Zone (BBAMZ) and TasTAFE.

“Tasmania is open for business and TasTAFE is open to industry. By working in partnership with industry we’ve brought this facility to life in the real and virtual world,” Minister Ellis said.

“We are working together to move our state forward by supporting innovative training solutions for learners.

“This Liberal Government is delivering for Tasmania, with our Tasmanian Skills Plan ensuring learners and employers are at the centre of everything we do to create more jobs and grow the economy.”

Together with industry, more than $1 million has been invested across 16 projects that deliver innovative training solutions.
