Nick Duigan, Minister for Sport
The much-anticipated first look at a redeveloped Silverdome has been released.
Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, said the Tasmanian Liberal Government is securing the Silverdome for future generations.
“We’re delivering a $12m investment into the Silverdome, this increased investment will revitalise a loved but tired venue,” Minister Duigan said.
“The upgrades include improved facilities for all athletes, enhanced accessibility for patrons, better amenities including food and beverage offerings, permanent corporate function spaces, and upgraded match-day facilities for players and officials.
“Importantly, the upgrade will increase seating capacity in basketball and netball mode from 3,250 to approximately 4,000, enabling the venue to attract and cater for more major events.
“This project will create local jobs, boost skills and capacity in the building and construction sector and contribute to our broader infrastructure goals.”
The new renders show the careful planning that has gone into the redevelopment.
“This design will meet NBL broadcasting standards, securing a minimum of two Tasmania JackJumpers games in Launceston each season,” Minister Duigan said.
“We’re also exploring opportunities such as WNBL games being played across the state, leveraging the upgraded infrastructure.”
The upgrades will support the development of community partnerships and programs, helping more Tasmanians participate in sport and physical activity.
“I look forward to seeing more sport, more concerts, more events, more people, and more economic benefits for Northern Tasmania as a result of this upgrade,” Minister Duigan said.
“Our Liberal Government is delivering for Tasmania by investing in new and upgraded sporting facilities across the state, supporting both grassroots and elite sporting groups.”
A builder will be appointed next year, with works due to be completed by late 2026.
