A new Health Hub has been officially opened at TasTAFE, paving the way for training in mental health, youth work, and alcohol and other drugs.
Minister for Skills and Jobs, Felix Ellis, said the $7.5 million redevelopment of ‘A Block’ at Launceston’s Alanvale Campus has delivered a specialised health training facility for learners and a new learning hub for student services.
“Adjacent to the nursing and support training areas, the new health hub will be the beating heart of the Alanvale campus,” Minister Ellis said.
“TasTAFE is training the next generation of health workers, with programs delivered at the hub co-designed with industry.
“The Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work has been designed for people with lived experience who are passionate about supporting others. The first intake is scheduled for Semester 1, 2026.
“Looking ahead, the next key focus for the Hub will be the design and development of training in the alcohol and other drugs sector.
“The Hub will provide technology-supported and industry-aligned training, delivering on a key focus of the Tasmanian Skills Plan to support excellence in our health and care workforce.”
The redevelopment also delivered the taypani* Learner Hub, which is a one-stop spot for learners to connect with client services, student supports, library and online resources.
Tasmanian Aboriginal Artist Caleb Nichols-Mansell has painted murals at the Health Hub and taypani Learner Hub that acknowledge the three clans connected to Country— Panina, Tayarinutipana and Litarimirinar.
