Kerry Vincent, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport
The future of Tasmania’s largest cargo port has been secured for the next 30 years.
TasPorts and Strait Link have finalised a new lease and terminal arrangement for the Port of Burnie.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Kerry Vincent, said this new agreement backs in the entire State.
“By securing this vital 30-year agreement we are working together to move our State forward,” Minister Vincent said.
“This outcome provides certainty for workers, local industry, the wider Burnie community and, of course, everyone who relies on our freight network here in Tasmania.
“The Port of Burnie is the largest cargo port in the entire State, making it vital for the national logistics network.”
This latest agreement locks in a sustainable model which in turn now activates a future-focused infrastructure investment.
TasPorts will now undertake a package of significant capital maintenance work as we look ahead to the next three decades.
This includes remediation of the wharf and seawall, and ongoing maintenance of wharf furniture, fenders and bollards.
Minister Vincent congratulated Strait Link and TasPorts on reaching this long-term commercial agreement which will bring significant benefits to Tasmania.
