Twenty-four community food relief providers will receive a boost to their food relief capacity to maximise cold storage, logistics and commercial kitchen facilities through Tasmanian Government grants.
Minister for Community and Multicultural Affairs, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the Government delivering for Tasmania by supporting communities with food relief.
“We recognise the challenges faced by many Tasmanians due to the rising cost of living and we will help them with compassion and commonsense,” Minister Ogilvie said.
“That is why we are supporting food relief providers with grants to upgrade facilities and provide much-needed capital for them to support communities.
“The Tasmanian Community Food Relief Capital Investment Grants Program 2025 will distribute $2.5 million this year.”
The grants program is part of a suite of Government commitments to support the continued shift from emergency food relief to building long-term food resilience.
The grant recipients include:
- $248,089: Tasmanian University Student Association to deliver a renovated site in Hobart including a fully equipped commercial-grade kitchen, walk-in cold storage facilities, and a purpose-built social supermarket space.
- $24,000: Big hART to upgrade an existing kitchen enabling operations to scale up and efficiently use seasonal produce, enhancing food security within the North-West region.
- $145,294: George Town Neighbourhood House to build a purpose-built, fully equipped kitchen and multi-functional teaching space, complete with accessible toilet facilities, responding to growing demand for food security programs in the local region.
- $219,015: Karadi Aboriginal Corporation to provide new cabinetry for improved storage, upgrading the electrical circuit, installing an additional oven and a commercial dishwasher, and upgrading to a commercial sink and appropriate tapware to assist in the delivery of food programs and support delivered by Karadi.
