Applications will soon open for the next round of the Waste Levy and Data Readiness Grant Program.
The program is designed to provide support for landfill and resource recovery facilities, with grants of up to $50,000 for eligible applicants to fund their relevant project.
Minister for Environment, Madeleine Ogilvie, said improving waste management is important to supporting a circular economy.
“The Waste Levy and Data Readiness Grant Program was developed to assist facility operators with the cost of modifying business systems and infrastructure to be able to comply with legislative requirements under the Waste and Resource Recovery Act 2022,” Minister Ogilvie said.
“As of last year, operators of all facilities who receive or are likely to receive more than 1,000 tonnes are required to record and report the movement of waste entering and leaving the facility each month.
“The data received from the reporting provides valuable insights for the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania (NRE Tas), and the Waste and Resource Recovery Board, to greater understand how much waste is produced, where it comes from and what it contains.
“These insights guide investment in infrastructure and programs, support more effective policy, planning, and education initiatives, and help the Government make informed decisions on how to manage waste into the future.”
Minister Ogilvie said the Tasmanian Government was working together with the waste management sector to move our state forward and deliver a better system for the future.
Landfill facilities receiving more than 100 tonnes, and resource recovery facilities receiving more than 1,000 tonnes per financial year respectively, will be able to apply for a grant from 28 October 2025.
Facility operators are encouraged to contact the NRE Tas with any questions regarding the new legislative requirements, or for assistance with the grant process.
