Eric Abetz, Treasurer

Transformation proposals for the Treasury Building Complex in the heart of Hobart are now being sought, with an expression of interest (EOI) process now open.

This has followed a period of Registration of Interest.

Treasurer Eric Abetz said this EOI phase allows interested proponents passionate about repurposing the Complex to submit a proposal.

“We have seen the development at Parliament Square and the Tasman, which has not only preserved the heritage characteristics of the buildings but is now home to world-class hospitality offerings, for Tasmanians and visitors alike to enjoy,” the Treasurer said.

"This move continues the Tasmanian Government’s vision to secure a long-term outcome to repurpose the Complex.

“The repurposing of the Treasury Complex presents a unique opportunity to stimulate investment, growth and confidence in the State throughout the design, construction and operational stages as well as create more jobs and economic activity within the State.

"We are continuing to work together with Tasmanians to identify ways we can keep our state moving forward, and this is a prime example."

It is anticipated that the EOI will be followed by a closed Request for Tender (RFT) phase, where proponents shortlisted from the EOI phase will be invited to provide a more comprehensive proposal that builds on their EOI response.

The Treasury Building comprises eight interconnected and adjoining civic buildings with a floor area of more than 8,200 square metres.
