The next generation of light tanker firefighting vehicles have been delivered to a number of southern brigades ahead of the bushfire season.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government is beefing up firefighting capability as part of the tanker replacement program, with brigades at Kingston, Taroona, Mount Nelson, Glenorchy and New Norfolk being boosted with the new light tanker vehicles.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, unveiled the new 5.1 light tankers at the Tasmania Fire Service 2025 Southern Region medals presentation.
“Our Liberal Government is delivering for Tasmania, and these new light trucks will boost our frontline response and give Southern communities greater confidence as we head into the fire season,” Minister Ellis said.
“The new light tankers deliver more off-road and pumping power so our firies can get on top of fires faster.
“It is fantastic to showcase this new firefighting capability while also recognising the long-standing achievements of Tasmania Fire Service volunteers at today’s 2025 Southern Region medals presentation.
“I want to thank each of the 34 volunteers who have been recognised for their commitment to our fire service today. These extraordinary volunteers have been honoured with National Medals for service from 15 years through to 55 years.
“Our career and volunteer firefighters are everyday heroes, working tirelessly to keep us safe, whether that be on the front line or in operational and support roles behind the scenes.
“A special congratulations to our long-standing volunteers, Robin Howlett AFSM of Campania Brigade and Peter Meaburn of Parattah Brigade who received their National Medal 55-year service Clasp.”
