Tenders are now open for construction on the next stage of the Great Eastern Drive Tourism Support package.
The Australian Government is contributing $100 million and the Tasmanian Government $25 million towards the Great Eastern Drive Tourism Support – additional packages project.
The latest tenders are part of the Triabunna works package, which includes widening and realignment of a 1.3-kilometre section of the Tasman Highway, north of Triabunna.
Construction is expected to start in early 2026, further improving safety for the state’s popular tourism route and complementing the program’s other ongoing upgrades.
Construction on the Apsley package started earlier this year and is expected to be completed in mid-2026, delivering improvements to the highway between Bicheno and Coles Bay Road, including the east coast’s first Hobart-bound overtaking lane.
Planning also continues on the Lisdillon package for a further 13-kilometre section of the highway between Pontypool and Rocky Hills, north of Little Swanport.
Tenders for the Triabunna works package are accessible via the tenders.tas.gov.au website. Proponents are encouraged to review the documentation and submit a formal response to be involved in the next steps in the process.
