Prospectus to drive critical investment

The Tasmanian Government continues to back the growth of the mining and mineral processing sectors, with the release of the Tasmanian Critical Minerals Prospectus.

Minister for Business, Industry and Resources, Felix Ellis, said the Prospectus would showcase the state’s extraordinary mineral potential and invite new investment.

“Tasmania is one of the most mineralised places on the planet and is uniquely positioned to help supply the minerals that the world needs to power the global demand for advanced and defence technologies,” Minister Ellis said.

“Tasmania has a proud mining history, a skilled workforce and a renewable energy advantage that sets us apart globally.

“This Prospectus captures the scale of the opportunity in front of us. From tungsten on King Island, rare earth elements in the Northeast, and silica deposits in the Northwest.”

The Tasmanian Critical Minerals Prospectus highlights the State’s strong investment fundamentals, including world class pre-competitive geological datasets, modern infrastructure and emerging opportunities in on-island processing and the circular economy such as reprocessing historic mine tailings.

“Our Liberal Government is delivering for Tasmania and the sector, with today’s announcement complementing the release of our Critical Minerals Strategy in November 2024, and extension of the popular Exploration Drilling Grant Initiative scheme until 2028,” Minister Ellis said.
