The Tasmanian Government has reaffirmed its commitment to building a world-class, person-centred health system with the release of the Progress Report 2024-2025 and the Implementation Plan 2025-2028 to deliver the Long-Term Plan for Healthcare in Tasmania 2040.
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, said phase one of implementing the Long-Term Plan focused on actions with the greatest immediate impact on health outcomes.
“This strategy is about continuing to build a sustainable, contemporary healthcare system as we look towards the future of healthcare in Tasmania,” Minister Archer said.
“The Implementation Plan 2025-2028 will strengthen service integration, drive innovation, and embed sustainability across the health system, reinforcing Tasmania’s commitment to modern, accessible, and future-ready healthcare.
“The Long-Term Plan is our blueprint for how the Tasmanian Government will work in partnership with the Tasmanian community to build an innovative, integrated health system that supports all Tasmanians.
“Our Government is delivering for Tasmanians, to ensure they can access the right care, in the right place, at the right time.”
Progress to deliver the Long-Term Plan is well underway, including:
- New ambulance stations built in Glenorchy, Burnie, and Oatlands;
- Medicare Urgent Care Clinics opened in Hobart, Bridgewater, Launceston, and Devonport;
- A record level of over 22,000 elective surgeries delivered in 2024-2025 as part of the Elective Surgery Four-Year Plan 2021–2025;
- Care@home expanded to include Acute Virtual Monitoring and Chronic Disease Management;
- Hospital in the Home – North launched with 11 virtual beds; and
- Hospital@Home – South expanded to 22 virtual beds and 8 geriatric care beds.
