Felix Ellis, Minister for Skills and Training
A new scholarship program for early childhood educators has been launched, delivering a key election commitment of the Tasmanian Liberal Government.
The Tasmanian Workforce Development Scholarship Program will assist up to 200 individuals to undertake qualifications in early childhood Certificate III, Diploma, and Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees.
Minister for Skills and Jobs, Felix Ellis, said these scholarships, delivered in partnership with Early Education Australia, would strengthen the sector right across the state.
“These scholarships will remove barriers, open doors, and create real opportunities for Tasmanians to access training, education, and a career,” Minister Ellis said.
“Each participant will receive a tailored support plan that combines academic, wellbeing, and professional support.
“For those relocating to remote or hard-to-staff areas such as King Island, Flinders Island, and West Coast, relocation support will be available to ease the transition and encourage long-term retention in these communities.”
Tasmania is projected to need an additional 1,200 education and care educators and teachers by 2029, representing a 14% growth in the sector.
“We are delivering for Tasmania by creating pathways for people to gain qualifications and enter a profession with strong career prospects, while building and sustaining a thriving workforce,” Minister Ellis said.
“Whether you are just starting out, returning to the workforce, or looking to upskill, this is your opportunity.
“If this sounds like a career you want to start or grow in, take the next step and apply for a scholarship today.”
