Bridget Archer, Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing

The Tasmanian Government has welcomed eight new qualified paramedics who have transferred from interstate ambulance services to join Ambulance Tasmania.

During a visit to Ambulance Tasmania in Cambridge today, Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, welcomed the new recruits and thanked them for choosing to bring their skills and experience to Tasmania.

“These dedicated professionals will make a real difference on the frontline, helping Tasmanians in their moments of greatest need,” Minister Archer said.

“I’m delighted to welcome the cohort to our health system and thank them deeply for their commitment to serving the Tasmanian community.”

The new paramedics have just completed a three-week induction program, including hands-on clinical training to familiarise them with Ambulance Tasmania’s procedures and practice guidelines.

After completing their driver training this week, they’ll begin working in communities across the State, with three to be based in the South, two in the North, and three in the North West.

Minister Archer said each paramedic will receive on-the-road mentoring and support as they settle into their new roles.

“These paramedics bring a wealth of experience and will help strengthen emergency response right across Tasmania,” Minister Archer said.

“I wish them all the best as they begin their careers with Ambulance Tasmania.

“This new intake follows the recent arrival of eight other qualified paramedics from interstate and overseas, as well as 31 graduate paramedics who have all joined the service this year.

“Our Government is investing in Tasmania’s health workforce, with new data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare showing that Tasmania has more healthcare workers per capita than any other State and is increasing staffing and investment faster than anywhere else in Australia.

“Our Liberal Government is delivering for Tasmania by investing in more healthcare staff across the State.”
