Kerry Vincent, Minister for Housing and Planning
The Tasmanian Government continues to deliver new social housing for Tasmanians, with 17 units now completed at Geeveston.
Backed by a $2.3 million investment from the Government, St Joseph Affordable Homes delivered the units which will be managed by Loreto Community Housing, with tenants moving in shortly.
The units – 16 two-bedroom and one three-bedroom – have all been built to the silver level of the Livable Housing Design Guidelines.
Minister for Housing and Planning, Kerry Vincent, said demand for social housing is not confined to Tasmania’s major population centres.
“People want to live in our regions – the lifestyle, the vibrant communities and remaining close to family are all important factors,” Minister Vincent said.
“This is great news for Geeveston and surrounds, it is just as important that we build new homes in our regional areas.
“We know that the safe, secure and affordable accommodation provided by social housing is the foundation for residents to participate in their community: finding and keeping a job, getting to school, making friends and achieving their goals.
“Building accessible homes means they can be easily modified for tenants’ future needs and means the units are suitable for people with a range of abilities.
“We are delivering for Tasmania by increasing the housing supply, and these new units are among hundreds of new homes putting roofs over the heads of Tasmanians,” Minister Vincent said.
