Tasmanian video game developers are set for a boost, with two Tasmanian developers securing support to take their video games to the next level, while a popular video game expo is set to return.
Giant Margarita, the team behind crowd-pleasing games such as Party Poppers, have received support for the development of Endless Cave Golf, a game that invites players to try a daily golf challenge.
Developer Webbysoft, creator of Bilkins’ Folly, received funding for Dino Time Rangers, a game that tasks a group of scientists with catching dinosaurs and time-travelling.
Minister for the Arts and Heritage, Madeleine Ogilvie, said she was excited to see Tasmanian video game development flourishing.
“The Tasmanian Government is supporting our well-established and emerging developers to get their games onto international screens,” Minister Ogilvie said.
“Since the current iteration of the Games Development Program from mid-2019, we have supported 21 games to level up.”
Minister Ogilvie said the Government is delivering for Tasmanians by supporting professional development which is critical to the burgeoning industry.
“This includes Tasmanian developers travelling to Melbourne International Games Week, where three developers showcased their games to massive crowds at PAX, and five Tasmanians attended industry events,” Minister Palmer said.
“Initiatives such as the Level Up Tasmania Video Game Showcase, which had a successful first run in 2024, are all helping our local developers to be seen on the world stage.
“I’m thrilled to announce that the next iteration of the Level Up Tasmania Video Game Showcase will run from 17 to 19 April 2026 at PW1, bringing game developers together with players and competitors.”
