Madeleine Ogilvie, Minister for Community and Multicultural Affairs
The Tasmanian Government’s newly released food resilience strategy aims to build food-resilient communities across Tasmania and sustain support options throughout the state.
Minister for Community and Multicultural Affairs, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the Building Food Resilient Communities: Tasmania’s Food Resilience Strategy 2025-2031 reflected the importance of food security to ensure individuals, families and communities can thrive.
“The development of this strategy represents an opportunity to tackle food insecurity in a more systemic and sustainable way,” Minister Ogilvie said.
“The Tasmanian Government is investing $8.9 million over the next four years to support the implementation of the strategy in a timely manner, and the continuation of food relief services.
“By working together we can help Tasmanians deal with the challenges they face, with compassion and commonsense.”
Building on the former strategy, this renewed long-term focus will address the root causes of food insecurity and building cohesive, equitable and climate-resilient food systems.
Minister Ogilvie said the investment would help achieve the government’s vision of a coordinated, inclusive, and sustainable food system which ensures all Tasmanians have dignified access to nutritious food and builds community food capability and resilience.
“During the development of this strategy, people with lived experience brought deep insight into the real-world impact of food insecurity,” Minister Ogilvie said.
“Cross-sector and cross‑government engagement also revealed the need for stronger partnerships with the private sector, including producers, retailers, and the hospitality industry, all playing a significant role in our food systems.
“The Tasmanian Government will work with communities, service providers and all areas of government to support this new strategy.”
