Nick Duigan, Minister for Sport

The highly anticipated Glenorchy Sports Centre has reached a crucial step with the release of the main works tender.
The $28 million project will deliver a brand-new, modern and accessible facility for sport, recreation and community use, and will become a hub for Hobart’s northern suburbs.
Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, said this marks an important step towards construction.
“The Glenorchy Sports Centre will be a fantastic community hub, providing fit-for-purpose facilities that encourage participation, inclusion and connection,” Minister Duigan said.
“This investment demonstrates our commitment to supporting grassroots sport, creating opportunities for local communities and delivering high-quality infrastructure for the future.
“The Glenorchy Sports Centre is set to be a game-changer for our local sports scene and will serve the community for decades to come.”
Four indoor multi-sport courts, including a show court with dedicated seating for up to 300 spectators, modern change rooms, parent and sensory rooms are included at the site.
It will also include a registered Changing Places facility, joining a national database of accessible toilets for people with disability and high support needs.
Funding for the facility is included in the interim Budget as we work together to deliver important community infrastructure and build on the success of the past decade.
“Our Government believes in strong finances, strong services and strong families, which together deliver a strong future for Tasmania, this is what this sports centre is all about,” Minister Duigan said.
“We are delivering strong investment in community infrastructure around the State. This includes Launceston’s Northern Suburbs Community Recreation Hub, high performance centres at Kingston for the JackJumpers and Tasmania Devils as well as upgrades to UTAS Stadium and Dial Park.”
Tender submissions for the Glenorchy sports centre close on Wednesday, 17 December 2025.
