Jo Palmer, Minister for Education
The Tasmanian Government is investing in high-quality curriculum resources for every classroom, supporting teachers with the tools they need to deliver consistent, evidence-based teaching.
Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said schools have been changing the way they teach reading as part of the Tasmanian Government’s commitment to Lifting Literacy.
"We’ve made significant progress in lifting literacy rates through our structured literacy policy, with reports confirming that student outcomes are improving," Minister Palmer said.
"The Tasmanian Government’s Lifting Literacy program is backed by strong evidence and endorsed by the Independent Review of Education in Tasmania.
"In 2026, we’re providing schools with high-quality, classroom-ready resources for English and Mathematics, ensuring every Tasmanian Government school, regardless of size or location, has access to the same quality teaching materials, supporting equity and consistency for staff and students."
Minister Palmer said high-quality curriculum materials can reduce teacher workload, with teachers reporting they save around three hours each week previously spent sourcing and creating materials.
"Funded through the Better and Fairer Schools Agreement, these resources will flow directly into schools, freeing time up for teachers to focus on teaching and learning," Minister Palmer said.
