The new $12.5m redevelopment of Bridgewater Police Station is fully operational, strengthening policing capabilities at one of Tasmania Police’s largest divisions.

Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, said the new 24/7 station is more than double the size of the previous iteration, providing increased capacity for officers, along with brand-new facilities.

“With increased police on the beat at Bridgewater, it’s crucial we have the infrastructure to match,” Minister Ellis said.

“These new facilities are backing-in Tasmania Police to crack down on crime and are more accessible to the community.

“An important feature of the upgraded station is the trauma-informed, vulnerable witness rooms, which contain advanced recording systems.”

Liberal Member for Lyons, Mark Shelton, said the investment will ensure that Tasmania Police personnel can continue to conduct effective policing in this rapidly growing region.

“With the Brighton and Derwent Valley regions experiencing significant population growth in recent years, the new station will allow Tasmania Police to expand its resources locally,” Mr Shelton said.

“The Liberal Government is delivering for Tasmania, and we're backing Tasmania Police with new purpose-built facilities at Bridgewater, New Norfolk, Sorell and Longford.”

The new Bridgewater Police Station was designed by Tasmanian architectural firm Philp Lighton Architects, with construction company Fairbrother as the principal builder.
