Nick Duigan, Minister for Energy and Renewables
Tasmanians have had their first chance to go behind the scenes of Trevallyn Dam.
Minister for Energy and Renewables said the open day was part of Hydro Tasmania’s ongoing commitment to connect with the communities it serves.
“Tasmanians have been given the change to have a first-hand look at one of State’s iconic hydro assets,” Minister Duigan said.
“With the tours fully booked, it’s a testament of how much Tasmanians love our hydro.
“Over the last century Hydro Tasmania has delivered clean, renewable energy to the Tasmanian people. It’s a legacy to be proud of.
“The Trevallyn Dam, completed in 1954, is an important part of the South Esk Catchment. The dam is 33 metres tall and 176 metres wide.
“It’s impressive because it can hold up to 8.5 million cubic metres of water. That’s 3400 Olympic sized swimming pools.
“Our hydro system will continue to provide energy for years to come, with investment happening in dams and power stations across the state.”
