Tasmania’s first strategy to strengthen our volunteering industry has been launched today.
Valuing Our Volunteers: Tasmania’s Volunteering Strategy 2025-2030 is the Tasmanian Government’s strategic framework to build a flourishing future for volunteers and volunteer organisations.
Minister for Community and Multicultural Affairs, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the strategy responds to the aspirations and challenges of the industry which have been raised by volunteers and volunteer organisations.
“Our volunteers are vital to Tasmania’s quality of life. We want volunteers to be safe, valued and enabled to participate in our community,” Minister Ogilvie said.
“We rely on the dedication of the volunteering industry to support our community, culture, economy and the natural environment.”
The strategy draws on the expertise of the State’s peak body, Volunteering Tasmania, and was developed in consultation with the Tasmanian community, volunteers, community service providers, volunteering organisations and businesses that have volunteers.
“The strategy captures the voices and aspirations of those who understand how essential volunteers are to our state,” Minister Ogilvie said.
“We thank Volunteering Tasmania for helping to shape the strategy and the hundreds of volunteers, volunteer managers, service providers and members of the community who engaged to help us understand how to create the right conditions for the industry to thrive.
“We are delivering for Tasmanian volunteers and included in the Budget is $600,000 over two years towards the implementation of this strategy and to commence subsidising the Working with Vulnerable People Checks for our volunteers.”
Volunteering Tasmania CEO, Mel Blake, thanked the government for its investment in this critical piece of work.
“Volunteering provides $12.1 billion in benefits annually to the Tasmanian economy. This strategy will help us respond to the changing and complex needs within the volunteering industry and provide realistic and sustainable solutions,” Ms Blake said.
The strategy will be delivered through an underpinning action plan.
