Tasmania’s retail sector continues to surge, with monthly retail trade hitting a new record of $743.6 million in March 2025 — the highest ever recorded in the State.
In the 12 months to March 2025, retail trade reached $8.75 billion, marking another record and representing a 66 per cent increase compared to the same period ending March 2014, when the Liberal Government came to office.
Treasurer Guy Barnett said the retail trade data highlighted the strength and resilience of Tasmania’s economy, and signalled growing confidence across the business community.
“These figures reflect the effectiveness of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, which is helping to build a confident and thriving economy,” Treasurer Barnett said.
“Despite global economic headlines, Tasmanians continue to spend, which is encouraging for local businesses and supports job creation and investment.”
The positive trend is further reinforced by the latest NAB Business Survey, which ranks Tasmania first in the nation for Business Confidence and second for Business Conditions.
“Our Liberal Government is backing business, supporting jobs, and growing the economy. These results are a testament to our government’s strong economic management,” the Treasurer said.
“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we will continue delivering a stronger, more prosperous Tasmania for everyone.”
