Jacquie Petrusma, Minister for Health
On International Day of the Midwife, the Tasmanian Liberal Government recognises and gratefully thanks Tasmania's midwives for the vital work they do in caring for our mothers, babies and families right across our State.
Minister for Health, Jacquie Petrusma, said midwives are an essential part of Tasmania’s health workforce.
“I want to extend my deep gratitude to each and every midwife across the Tasmanian health system for their unwavering commitment to their patients, colleagues and our wider Tasmanian community,” Minister Petrusma said.
“Our midwives are the backbone of our maternity services, and the dedication and support they provide to women and their babies makes a lasting impact on the lives of Tasmanian families.
“As a Government, we are committed to building a strong and sustainable midwifery workforce that meets the needs of Tasmanians, which is why we are investing in a range of recruitment and retention initiatives and professional development pathways.
“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we launched a $10 million Nursing and Midwifery Recruitment and Retention Incentives package to boost the workforce.
“The package offers Tasmanian midwifery graduates up to $10,000 for working in the Tasmanian health system for three years and up to $15,000 relocation allowance for registered midwives who move to Tasmania and work in the health system for three years.
“Our valued midwives employed in Tasmania are also eligible to apply for a scholarship through the Tasmanian Nursing and Midwifery Scholarship program to help fund post-registration education, training and professional development that enables them to build their clinical expertise.”
