Leaders of the Geospatial industry have come together in Tasmania to explore the latest trends, innovations, and applications shaping the future of GIS technology.

Minister for Parks, Nick Duigan, said the Tasmanian Government recognises the importance of geospatial information and how vital this sector is to the lives of the Tasmanian community.

“The State of GIS Tasmania seminar provides the opportunity to celebrate the sector, and is a premier event in Tasmania for industry, professionals and innovators for geospatial technology,” Minister Duigan said.

“It was great to be able to launch the new Tasmanian Spatial Information Council’s (TASSIC) new Strategic Plan 2025-2028 at the event.

“As part of the Plan, TASSIC has an ambition to be a trusted advisor for government to help support and deliver potentially innovative business and service opportunities.

“Trusted, robust and authoritative Spatial Information is a critical enabler for economic activity, societal wellbeing, and policy implementation across many sectors, including health, education, emergency management, agriculture, energy, tourism, and infrastructure.

“TASSIC’s new plan articulates strategies to ensure that sectors with maturing use spatial information are assisted to leverage the power of spatial data for their benefit.

“Another key component of the new Strategic Plan is the ambition to influence sectors that are yet to realise the full capabilities of mature geospatial information, unlocking the potential in other sectors is where communities stand to benefit from geospatial technology.

“I have witnessed first-hand the incredibly important role that spatial information plays in supporting Tasmania’s response to natural disasters. These are foundation systems for the delivery and management of spatial information in Tasmania which further strengthens our links with the digital economy.

“Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future builds on the gains made over the past decade to deliver a stronger economy and jobs for Tasmanians, which is what this Plan will continue to do.

“I look forward to the Council’s successful implementation of the TASSIC 2025-2028 Strategic Plan.”
