Guy Barnett, Attorney-General

Law Week 2025 will be celebrated between 19 and 25 May, providing an opportunity for all Tasmanians to learn about their legal rights and the power of legal knowledge.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Guy Barnett, encouraged Tasmanians to get involved this Law Week.

“Law Week is recognised across Australia every May, with events and activities designed to help everyday Australians access vital information about their legal rights and responsibilities,” the Attorney-General said.

“Tasmania has a distinguished and proud justice system, boasting the oldest Supreme Court in the country.

“Each day, Tasmanians interact with our justice system for a number of reasons, and it is vitally important that they understand their rights, what they are entitled to and how to navigate it.

“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future we will continue to ensure our justice system is fit-for-purpose and performing for Tasmanians.”

Highlights of the 2025 program include:

  • The ever popular Supreme Court tours and You be the Judge Sentencing Workshops, both of which are being offered in Launceston as well as Hobart this year;
  • An opportunity to meet Zoey the Court Dog, and learn about the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia Court Dog Therapy program;
  • A presentation on trauma informed practice by Regina Weiss and Robert Benjamin AM SC;
  • Seminars presented by the Public Trustee and Office of the Public Guardian on key documents to help make your wishes known and protect yourself and loved ones; and
