Jo Palmer, Minister for Education

Tasmanian children have joined kids across Australia to celebrate reading, as part of National Simultaneous Storytime.

Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said libraries around Tasmania have hosted hundreds of enthusiastic young booklovers eager to hear the moving story of Tinka and his human, Yacoub in The Truck Cat.

“National Simultaneous Storytime is a fantastic event to share the joy of reading and promote literacy among Tasmanian children,” Minister Palmer said.

“It was wonderful to read The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel and Danny Snell to an excitable group of Warrane Primary School students today.

“Libraries are pivotal community spaces that support literacy development, and we’re pleased to support literacy learning for all Tasmanians through events such as National Simultaneous Storytime.

“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are committed to improving literacy rates across Tasmania and giving children the best possible start in life and learning.”

National Simultaneous Storytime is organised by the Australian Library and Information Association to promote the importance of reading and literacy.

Each year, millions of people across Australia and New Zealand participate by reading the same book simultaneously in libraries, schools, homes and bookshops.
