More housing is set to be delivered than ever for Tasmanians who need it, with the Tasmanian Government’s half a billion-dollar investment over the next four years.

The upcoming 2025-26 Budget will see a significant investment into housing, ensuring the Government progresses its ambitious goal to deliver 10,000 social and affordable homes by 2032.

Minister for Housing, Planning, and Consumer Affairs, Felix Ellis, said the Tasmanian Government is building a better Tasmania: now and for the future.

“This Budget will continue to address the key concerns of Tasmanians as we deliver on our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future," Minister Ellis said.

“It will get the balance right, with major investments into social and affordable housing and expanding supports for those experiencing homelessness, while supporting more Tasmanians to realise their dream of homeownership.

“We’ve already taken strong action by stamping out stamp duty for first home buyers on homes valued up to $750,000 and expanding our successful 2 per cent deposit MyHome program.

“The upcoming Budget will build on these successful initiatives, supporting more community providers to build the homes Tasmanians need.

“It will also see a boost to our Social Housing Maintenance Fund, which enables ongoing upgrades to social housing properties and ensures they remain safe, secure and clean for tenants.

“Our Government is building a better Tasmania: now, and for the future.”

The 2025-26 Budget will also see a real focus on increased homelessness supports and crisis accommodation.

“Whether it’s the 74-bed Bethlehem House facility for men experiencing homelessness, or Amelie House and the Hobart Women’s Shelter, which support women in need – this Budget will expand support for our most vulnerable,” Minister Ellis said.

The 2025-26 Budget will continue to deliver on the things that matter and address the key concerns of the community: cost of living, health, housing and safety.
