Felix Ellis, Minister for Housing and Planning
The Tasmanian Government is ensuring that Homes Tasmania continues to deliver housing, homelessness and crisis accommodation services for Tasmanians.
Releasing the independent review into Homes Tasmania, Minister for Housing, Planning and Consumer Affairs, Felix Ellis, said getting roofs over the heads of Tasmanians is an absolute priority.
“The review, conducted by former NSW Auditor-General Ms Margaret Crawford PSM, outlined 20 key recommendations to strengthen clarity, purpose, and effectiveness of Homes Tasmania,” Minister Ellis said.
“Our Government is accepting all 20 recommendations, with work to implement them now underway.
“As part of the review, the effectiveness of the governance structures and processes of Homes Tasmania was considered.
“One of the key recommendations makes changes to relocate the housing policy functions to the Department of State Growth.
“This will allow Homes Tasmania to strongly concentrate on the delivery of social and affordable homes, and tenancy and homelessness services.
“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we’ve been full steam ahead on delivering our ambitious goal of 10,000 social and affordable homes by 2032 and I am confident that this change will enable Homes Tasmania to deliver more homes for Tasmanians, faster.
“I want to thank Ms Crawford for her work and look forward to implementing her findings to build a better Homes Tasmania.”
