In a promising start to the new year, the iconic Taste of Summer festival has celebrated increased visitor numbers.
More than 87,000 people visited the festival between 28 December and 4 January, up from 84,000 the holiday season before.
Minister for Hospitality and Small Business, Jane Howlett, congratulated the organisers, and announced future support for the festival.
“These figures come as no surprise and speak volumes of the popularity of Tassie produce, hospitality and entertainment.
“32 percent of this season’s attendees came from overseas and interstate, so it’s fair to say that the Taste of Summer is now a national celebration of the very best of Tasmania.
“From arts and crafts for the kids and world-class musical acts for adults, and fresh seafood to dishes of all cuisines, the Taste of Summer had something for everyone,” Minister Howlett said.
The Tasmanian Government has supported the Taste of Summer with $7.7 million in investments through to 2026 as part of the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.
Today, the Government reached an in-principle agreement with organiser PinPoint Group to support the festival until 2030.
“The Taste of Summer is going from strength to strength. We recognise that success, and that is why we’re lending our support for the future.
“We’re still working out the final details with the organiser, but suffice to say, the Taste of Summer is here to stay,” Minister Howlett said.
