Jacquie Petrusma, Minister for Health

The next step in the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s plan to rebuild the Launceston General Hospital has progressed with the construction tender for a new temporary hospital carpark now released.

The temporary carpark will provide 174 additional parking spaces on the corner of Charles and Howick Streets, utilising the vacant site of the former Anne O’Byrne Centre, with vehicle access from Howick Street.

Minister for Health, Jacquie Petrusma, said the temporary carpark is being delivered as part of the Government’s broader multistorey carpark project.

“The temporary carpark will provide parking facilities for patients, staff and visitors while our brand new 470-space multistorey carpark is under construction,” Minister Petrusma said.

“As part our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are delivering state-of-the-art infrastructure projects at all of our major hospitals, like the new multistorey carpark, which is an important part of our $647.5 million LGH Precinct Masterplan.

“Improving parking and access to the LGH precinct was a key consideration in the development of the Masterplan, and this is another important step forward that will be welcomed by staff, patients, and visitors.”

The temporary carpark will also offset reduced parking around the LGH Precinct while several important health infrastructure projects are delivered under Stage 2 of the LGH Precinct Masterplan, including the LGH Mental Health Precinct.
