Kerry Vincent, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport

Final upgrade designs for the South Arm Road and Acton Road junction in Lauderdale have been released, marking an important milestone for the Rokeby Road - South Arm Road Upgrades project.

The Australian Government has committed $44 million and the Tasmanian Government $11 million toward the broader South Arm Road upgrades, on an 80:20 basis, which will improve safety and connectivity for the growing Eastern Shore communities.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Kerry Vincent said these works will improve safety and connectivity.

“Finalising the designs for the South Arm Road and Acton Road intersection is a key step in progressing this project and delivering for Tasmania,” Minister Vincent said.

“These upgrades will significantly improve safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, while easing congestion and improving travel times for residents and commuters.

The junction upgrade at South Arm Road and Acton Road will see traffic signals installed at the intersection to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and provide safer access for all road users.

Pedestrian facilities will also be improved, making it easier to cross the road and connect with local services.

The design was finalised following community consultation on the initial designs in February this year.

Construction on the junction upgrade is expected to begin in mid-2026, with the project team continuing to work closely with the community throughout delivery.

Planning is also progressing for the duplication of South Arm Road between Pass Road, Rokeby and Oakdowns Parade.

“This is another example of the Tasmanian Government building infrastructure to support the growth of our communities and facilitate private investment and jobs,” Minister Vincent said.
