A Strategy to enable greater access to sport and active recreation for women and girls in Tasmania has been released.

Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, said the Tasmanian Government is delivering on its commitment to increase opportunities for all women and girls to participate in all levels of sport.

“Tasmania is diverse, and we want to remove barriers for women and girls so they can participate to their full potential,” Minister Duigan said.

“We know that participation in sport provides Tasmanians with the opportunity to improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing, and to develop confidence and leadership skills, as well as bringing people and communities together.

“Following a successful public consultation earlier this year, a Draft Tasmanian Women and Girls Sport Strategy was developed and now consultation is the final step.”

Feedback on the Draft Women and Girls Sport Strategy opened today and will close on October 22.

“We want Tasmanians at every level to contribute and continue the conversation about the importance of equal opportunities for women and girls in sport,” Minister Duigan said.

“I look forward to hearing from the community to help strengthen our first Tasmanian Women and Girls Sport Strategy 2025–2032. Make sure you have your say.”

Following the consultation period, feedback will be reviewed and used to finalise the Strategy.

The community is invited to share their contributions at https://www.active.tas.gov.au/have-your-say or via email at info@active.tas.edu.au.
