Kerry Vincent, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport
The Tasmanian Government is delivering a vital boost to facilities at Flinders Island Airport.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Kerry Vincent, said the issuing of a grant deed to Flinders Island Council for the Flinders Island Airport project provided certainty for the island community.
“This grant deed ensures the airport can continue to serve as a vital gateway for residents, visitors, and businesses,” Minister Vincent said.
“The project will modernise the airport’s electrical system, install new lighting, and construct a new operations office.”
Flinders Island Council was awarded $2.68 million through the Australian Government’s Growing Regions program, representing 90 per cent of the total project costs, with the Tasmanian Government providing the remaining $320,000, ensuring the project can proceed in full.
“Today, we are delivering for the Flinders Island community,” Minister Vincent said.
“The project extends beyond economic gain, directly impacting community health, safety and accessibility.
“It is vital to ensuring the continued all-weather operation and safety of Flinders Island Airport, supporting emergency services and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
“The Tasmanian Government is delivering on its commitments to regional communities, ensuring infrastructure meets the needs of Tasmanians now and into the future.”
