Guy Barnett, Attorney-General
Financial redress is now available for people who were charged or convicted under former laws against homosexuality and cross-dressing.
Under the scheme, payments of $15,000 to $75,000 are accessible for those with an eligible offence expunged.
Attorney-General, Guy Barnett, said the expungement scheme is an important step forward for Tasmania.
“We are committed to helping Tasmanians deal with the challenges that they face with compassion and common sense,” the Attorney-General said.
“Following the passing of the Expungement of Historical Offences Amendment Bill 2025, I’m pleased to see this scheme commence.
“I want to thank and acknowledge all members of Parliament for the collaborative approach taken on these reforms.
“We will continue to work with representatives of the LGBTIQA+ community to develop materials to raise awareness of the Scheme and financial redress.”
