Jeremy Rockliff, Premier
The Tasmanian Government has reached wage agreements with the Tasmania Police Association and the Tasmanian United Firefighters Union.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said our police and fire services are world-class and we thank them for everything they do.
“Together with the unions, we have delivered a long-term wage agreement for our police officers and a one-year rollover agreement for firefighters,” Premier Rockliff said.
“We wanted to see our public servants receive a pay rise before Christmas, and we are pleased our police, firefighters and education facility attendants have achieved this.”
The police agreement includes a pay rise of 3 per cent in year one, 3 per cent in year two and 2.75 per cent in year three.
A number of improved conditions and allowances have also been delivered as part of the good faith negotiations.
Consistent with the Police Association Tasmania's proposal to Government, funding for the proposed increases will be through the reallocation of funding for 50 new police positions, consistent with the Department's and the PAT support for a stronger retention-focused strategy.
Firefighters will receive a fair and affordable 3 per cent pay rise, as well as improved conditions, while the Government and United Firefighters Union continue working together on a longer-term agreement.
A new one-year rollover offer has also been made to unions for 17,000 state servants covered by the Public Sector Union Wages Agreement.
Additional conditions, including structural reform of the entry level and core operating classifications, have been added to the fair and affordable 3 per cent wage offer.
“Acceptance of this offer will ensure workers get a pay rise in the New Year and increased conditions while negotiations on longer-term agreements continue,” Premier Rockliff said.
