The Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) has today welcomed 10 new Correctional Officers to its ranks.
Today’s graduation marks the end of 12 weeks of intensive training which combines classroom learning and supervised placements within TPS facilities to ensure the recruits are fully equipped to take on their new roles.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Corrections and Rehabilitation, Guy Barnett, congratulated all graduates, welcoming them to their new roles.
“The Tasmania Prison Service is an integral pillar of our justice system,” the Attorney-General said.
“I congratulate Tasmania’s newest Correctional Officers on completing their training as they embark on what is a rewarding career.
“They come to their new roles having previously worked in roles and industries such as police officer, truck driver, retail, cleaner, Air Force, protective services officer, mental health and business manager.
“This is the second recruit school to graduate in 2025 as the TPS continues to focus on increasing its correctional workforce.
“Applications for a recruit course to begin in January 2026 close at the end of this month and I encourage anyone who is considering a career in corrections, wants a new and rewarding role, or has a passion for helping people change their lives to consider applying.”
Before they started this training the recruits endured a rigorous selection process that involved psychological and physical assessments, teamwork exercises and other processes which tested their suitability for this unique and challenging occupation.
Further information on the work and the selection process is available on the dedicated TPS recruitment website.
