Kerry Vincent, Minister for Infrastructure

The New Bridgewater Bridge Project has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Australian Construction Achievement Award.

Minister for Infrastructure, Kerry Vincent, said the award was worthy recognition for everyone involved with the project, McConnell Dowell and the work done by the Tasmanian Government to deliver the largest transport infrastructure project in the State’s history.

“An enormous congratulations to everybody who had something to do with that construction process,” Minister Vincent said.

“This award is one of the most significant accolades in the country’s infrastructure sector.

“The award is well deserved and recognises the outstanding planning, innovation, engineering and community collaboration involved in delivering this once-in-a-generation project.

“The bridge, which was delivered by the Tasmanian Government on time and on budget, stands as a testament to what can be achieved when we work together.

“It is a landmark of national significance.”

The $786 million Australian and Tasmanian government funded project opened to traffic on 1 June 2025 and early benefits, including improved travel times and enhanced freight capacity are already being realised.

McConnell Dowell, along with the project’s designers, engineers, subcontractors and local suppliers, have delivered a critical piece of infrastructure with a focus on quality, sustainability and community benefit.

Minister Vincent said the project created hundreds of jobs and included significant investment in local content, ensuring Tasmanians share in the benefits long into the future.

“To have this work recognised at the highest national level is an achievement all Tasmanians can be proud of,” Minister Vincent said.
