A Tasmanian woman who put her life at risk to protect others has been recognised by the Governor-General as part of the Wattle Day 2025 Australian Bravery Decorations Honours List.

Ms Kim Shepherd was awarded a Group Bravery Citation for her role in restraining an armed offender at a hospital in Toowong, Queensland, on August 28, 2016.

Deputy Premier Guy Barnett said the honour is bestowed to Australians who put themselves at risk to protect the lives or property of others.

“Ms Shepherd showed extraordinary bravery during a terrifying incident,” the Deputy Premier said.

“This honour is a testament to the bravery and selflessness Ms Shepherd displayed.

“On behalf of all Tasmanians, we are so proud to have a person like you in our great state.”

Deputy Premier Barnett congratulated all the 37 individuals honoured in the latest Australian Bravery Decorations Honours List.

The Australian Bravery Honours List is announced on Wattle Day, September 1, each year.

The independent Australian Bravery Decorations Council makes recommendations to the Governor-General regarding who should be recognised and at what level of award.
