Kerry Vincent, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport

Construction has started on the Lyell Highway near Hayes to repair damage from a landslip which occurred in September 2024.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Kerry Vincent, said the repairing and strengthening of Tasmania’s roads improves safety for all road users.
“Since the landslip, comprehensive site investigations and design work has been carried out to ensure the repairs done to this part of the Lyell Highway will create long-term stability of the road and roadside,” Minister Vincent said.
“The Tasmanian Government is investing in the state’s roads and bridges to get Tasmanians home to their loved ones safely and sooner.”
Construction on the work between Hayes and Rosegarland starts today, Monday, 25 August.
Construction will take place from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday works as required.
A reduced speed limit and single lane closure will be in place throughout the construction period. Please allow extra travel time when travelling through this area. Traffic lights will be used to safely guide road users through the worksite.
The Department of State Growth will notify the public if any changes are required and will keep the community informed on our progress.
Construction is expected to finish in late December 2025, weather permitting.
“Please follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs and keep to the posted speed limit for everyone’s safety,” Minister Vincent said.
