Construction is now underway for the new Bicheno Ambulance Station, as part of the Tasmanian Government’s plan to deliver new and improved facilities for emergency ambulance services.
The new Bicheno Ambulance Station is one of six new rural ambulance stations to be built around Tasmania.
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, said the start of works is an exciting milestone for the East Coast community.
“The Tasmanian Government is delivering new ambulance infrastructure around the State as part of our plan to bolster Ambulance Tasmania’s services,” Minister Archer said.
“The new Bicheno Ambulance Station will provide a contemporary facility for both paramedics and volunteers to operate from, providing emergency care to Bicheno and the surrounding area.
“It will house all of Ambulance Tasmania’s needs at a single location and provide purpose-built features. This includes a drive-through garage with internal charging station, secure equipment and medical storage, fully equipped ambulance cleaning facilities and accommodation for volunteer ambulance officers while on shift.
“The new station will also ensure that there is capacity to upgrade from the current single branch station to meet the future emergency medical needs of the community.
“It’s fantastic to see works underway and I look forward to following the project’s progress in the months ahead."
Tasmanian-based builder AJR Construction has been selected to build the new station at 17 Sinclair Street, which is expected to be completed in 2026.
The Department of Health has consulted closely with Ambulance Tasmania, the Glamorgan Spring Bay Council, and other key stakeholders in the local community to select a site and design that balances operational needs with community feedback.
