Test for Labor on new taxes

It’s decision time for the Opposition Leader and his Labor colleagues on whether they support new taxes being imposed on Tasmanians.

Will they support Independent MP Kristie Johnston’s motion in Parliament today which calls on the government to increase the ratio of ‘own-source’ to total general government receipts’. I.e. new taxes and charges.

Make no mistake: The Tasmanian Government will oppose the motion because we oppose new and increased taxes.

Labor is already planning on hiking up fees and charges to maximise government business profits.

If Labor support this motion - they support new taxes. It’s that simple.
