Nick Duigan, Minister for Parks

Visitors to Tasmania’s stunning East Coast will once again be able to enjoy one of the region’s most popular destinations.
The much-loved Friendly Beaches campground will reopen on Thursday 17 April, ahead of the Easter break.

Minister for Parks, Nick Duigan, said the area has been restored after fire swept through the area, severely damaging the site infrastructure.
“Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife service have been working hard to ensure families can get back to this area as soon and as safely as possible,” Minister Duigan said.
“I am pleased to advise that all fire damaged infrastructure has been restored, including two toilet blocks, beach viewing platform, guideposts, fencing and signage.
“The road leading into the site has also been rejuvenated, enabling easy access for two-wheel drive vehicles and other camping vehicles.”
The restoration works include:
  • Two new toilet blocks located on the previous toilet sites
  • New directional and safety signs
  • New replacement viewing platform with seat and easy access to the beach
  • Restored lookout viewing area
  • New fencing for the existing campsite with easy to identify numbers
  • Restored beach access points at the northern end of the campground
To ensure public safety, the campground and day use area has been closed while extensive stabilisation and restoration works took place.
“A huge thanks to the public, commercial operators and staff for their patience while this restoration work was completed,” Minister Duigan said.
“Delivering important infrastructure to regional communities is a key component of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, I encourage Tasmanians to visit this wonderful part of our state.”
All visitors are asked to respect the site as it recovers and observe all signage while enjoying the area.
