Jeremy Rockliff, Premier
As a nation, we need to improve the interventions and preventative measures that we know will keep people safe from violence.
Today’s commitment by the Federal Government into the Domestic and Family Violence Partnership and the National Access to Justice Partnership is a positive step in the right direction.
Tasmania is amongst the nation’s leaders when it comes to taking action to prevent and respond to domestic violence, and holding perpetrators to account.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said Tasmania was leading the way in meeting its target under the National Action Plan’s 500 workers initiative.
"We are on track to meet our target, again placing us among the nation’s leaders," Premier Rockliff said.
“Tasmania has taken strong action to keep women and children safe.
“Our nation-leading electronic monitoring program not only monitors offenders, but provides victim-survivors with the option of a discreet monitoring device that alerts them when their family violence offender is nearby,” Premier Rockliff said.
“Our multi-disciplinary Arch Centres in the North and South of the State are delivering a survivor-centred, holistic and integrated response to family and sexual violence.
“We will also deliver a third Arch Centre in the North West, as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.
“We’ve funded three whole-of-government comprehensive Family and Sexual Violence Action Plans, and more than $500 million has been invested, committed and secured since 2015.
“Of course, much more work needs to be done to ensure Tasmanians live a life free of family violence.
“We will continue to take strong action to prevent family violence, with next week’s State Budget to deliver significant funding for prevention and intervention measures to keep Tasmanians safe.”
