The Tasmanian Liberal Government supports our inland freshwater recreational fisheries and has committed $220,000 over three years to Anglers Alliance Tasmania (AAT), as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.
Minister for Business, Industry and Resources, Eric Abetz, said AAT is the peak body representing the voice of freshwater anglers including 4000 angling club members and over 26,000 freshwater angling licence holders.
"The funding support to AAT, administered by a funding deed with the Inland Fisheries Service (IFS), and delivered by AAT in collaboration with the IFS under a joint governance model, will support junior fishing education programs in the State," he said.
"It will also allow for continued management of the AAT web cam network which means anglers can easily check weather conditions for free before heading to the lakes for a fishing trip.
"The funding will also allow AAT to undertake other initiatives including contribution to high priority research projects, facilitate communication between the IFS and anglers, explore opportunities to develop and improve the inland recreational fishery, work with the IFS to promote the fishery and other initiatives aimed at increasing participation in recreational fishing."
AAT Chair Gary France said that inland fishing provides strong economic, social and cultural benefits to our community.
“AAT thanks the Tasmanian Government for its support and looks forward to continuing its work in providing an active and constructive forum for anglers and angling clubs to contribute to the development and sustainability of our prized inland fishery,” Mr France said.
The ongoing funding support for the important work AAT are doing is crucial in ensuring educational resources to encourage participation of all anglers, especially our junior anglers, for generations to come.
