Nick Duigan, Minister for Parks and Environment

World renowned Bird in Hand Winery will operate the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens’ new restaurant, kiosk and catering services.

Minister for Parks and Environment, Nick Duigan, said the long-term agreement with the South Australian based winery was the next step in revitalising the Gardens.

“The winery has close ties with Tasmania, already growing some of its grapes here,” Minister Duigan said.

“Recognised as one of Australia’s top producers of fine wine, Bird in Hand’s new establishment at the Gardens will showcase a selection of fine wines crafted in the Tamar Valley and East Coast regions of Tasmania.

“The new venues will also include diverse food and beverage offerings and are set to open in 2025 as part of major capital improvements at the Gardens Visitor Centre.”

Bird in Hand’s much anticipated venue builds on the success on their restaurant, LVN, based in Adelaide Hills.

“This restaurant was nominated for Best New Restaurant at the Australian Gourmet Traveller Annual Restaurant Awards,” Minister Duigan said.

“We’re delighted to have them on showcasing Tasmania’s produce."

Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is all about making Tasmania the best place to live, work and raise a family. That’s what the upgrades to the Gardens, and its visitor centre, are all about.

“This partnership will establish the Gardens as a premier food and beverage destination, enhancing its reputation as one of Australia’s most cherished botanical gardens,” Minister Duigan said.

“By showcasing the diversity and exceptional quality of Tasmanian wine, this partnership will provide a valuable platform to promote local winemakers and their outstanding products.”
