Tasmania’s health system continues to deliver for Tasmanians with three important health projects recognised nationally for excellence in project management and leadership.
The North West Maternity Transition Project was announced as the Tasmanian winner in the Government Projects category as part of the Project Management Achievement Awards.
Oral Health Services Tasmania’s Digital Dentures program (ICT/Telecommunications Project) and Conscious Sedation Pilot Program (Professional Services Project) were also recognised as the Tasmanian winners in their respective categories.
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, congratulated everyone involved in all three projects.
“The North West Maternity Services Transition Project was a complex project, and one which was very important to the local community,’’ Minister Barnett said.
“The transition occurred in December 2023 – almost one year ahead of schedule – resulting in all elements of the maternity service including inpatient, birthing, clinics and community midwifery services now being delivered through the public system.
“Everyone involved in the transition project did a wonderful job to meet these timeframes and ensure our new publicly delivered maternity service was set up to provide high-quality care to mothers and babies throughout the region.
“The recognition of this project is testament to the efforts of all involved and I commend them for their dedication and hard work towards making the transition of maternity services a reality.”
Minster Barnett also congratulated Oral Health Services for becoming the first statewide public dental service provider in Australia to roll out the new cutting-edge digital denture technology across an entire State.
This technology enables oral health services staff to produce dentures that are more accurate and precise, making them more durable and comfortable to wear than dentures made traditionally.
“Since the introduction of this technology, more than 4,000 people have received a new denture from Oral Health Services Tasmania using the digital technology,” Minister Barnett said.
“It also reduces the number of appointments needed to provide a denture for a patient, saving travel time for patients and creating more capacity to deliver more dental appointments.
“We are working hard to deliver an even better healthcare system through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.”
Winners have been announced for each state and territory across Australia in a number of categories, with the national winners to be announced at a gala dinner in Canberra in October.
